This Reserve des Chastelles Tavel is a blend of grape varietals. 50% Grenache Noir, 25% Cinsault, 7% Grenache Blanc, 5% Syrah and 5% Carignan.
Tavel is the only appellation in the Rhône valley which specializes in Rose wine only. Wine from this noble terroir have more body and structure than most Rose.
On the nose, we smell red fruit like strawberries, raspberries. After sipping this wine, you can taste the red berries as well, maybe even some watermelon and minerals.
This Rose is a beautiful color and as weird as it sounds the color is ruby red and reminds us of Dorothy’s Ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz! This is a medium body Rose with little acidity and is 13.5% ALC/VOL. The more we drink this wine the more we love it! It feels and tastes super elegant and we definitely will be buying this one again. We found it at Trader Joe’s for $8.99! Also for people that don’t drink Rose, we have had many conversations with people that haven’t tried it and for some reason think all Rose is sweet, It’s not. Despite the color of this wine it is not sweet, people also think that if a Rose is deep in color than the wine is sweet, it’s not. Totally different from most we have had and you should check it out!
